Who Gone Stop Me?

When speaking on women on the rise, make sure you include Tabitha D. James! She is making a name for herself, tearing down every wall, which poses as a barrier. Tabitha is a game changer! She is conquering motivational speaking, changing lives, and putting all of her talents into a book! Find out how she makes it all look so easy. Dreams to Reality is featuring a go getta!

What is it that you do?

I do a lot; primarily I am a leadership focused speaker. I produce publications for leadership functions and leadership curriculum. I work to promote individual leadership. I sit down at universities and build curriculum on how to become leaders. I promote individual leadership. Everyone has intrinsic leadership qualities and I work to find it [in them]. I also develop articles, business plans, and mentoring curriculum

What is 1AmShe?

1AMShe: “It’s a brand, business, and a movement”

It's a social entrepreneurial entity focused on one minded leadership for everyone. When I first started speaking I didn’t think it would go as far as it has. I promote 1AMShe in my leadership training. I use the “I Am theory” when I speak; “I am inspiring, I Am a work in progress, I Am struggling...”. It makes you think about the affirmations and how it’ll change your life.

The business side is to promote mobile entrepreneurship for women. Women can own diverse types of things. By using my network, I am able to connect people with connections that will benefit them and their careers.

Have you found your purpose in life? If so, are you fulfilling it?

Yes and yes. Yes I found my purpose in helping to inspire people with what may or may not be going right in their life. What I do through Christ and in life is for the inspiration of others. I share my story to others when I speak. It’s so easy to get discouraged and not forgive, some people don’t know how to let go. And, I can’t fault people for it, it’s a part of their structure. We don’t trust each other. Our ancestors leaned on each other and trusted each other. When we got a little more privilege, we lost touch of that.

Were there ever people who doubted you?

Yes, there were people who doubted me. It has been discouraging in the past, because some people who doubted me were the people I expected to support me. But, when you have "different" types of dreams you can’t expect them all to be supported. If you don’t say something that’s common they're like, “Well how you gonna do that?”. It’s adrenaline for me now. It’s all possible and I'm going to make sure it happens.

What are some upcoming things we can expect to see from you?

My personal brand website is coming soon. It sets me aside from my business, 1AmShe. Its marks Tabitha D James, separating me from the business and all the many things I do. With doing so many things it makes you think, “Well Tab, what is it that you do?” [Laughs].

On July 4th, my book will be released. My [book] signing is July 8th at the Myrtle Beach Convention center. I am going on Part II of my tour starting July 8th, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I fly to Las Vegas on July 13th and continue to California on July 17th.

Where do you see yourself in the next 2-3 years?

I plan to be 70% finished with my PhD., have two published books, and continue to be a model for young professionals. I hope to keep myself grounded and humble. I hope to be a millionaire [soon]. Yes, I want nice things and to take awesome trips, but I want wealth so I create better lives for people.

As a black woman, are there times where you feel like you have to market yourself 10 times harder?

Yes, I do think there are times where I have to market myself harder than a Caucasian male or even a Black male. Sometimes it's intimidating playing in certain circles. I'm a lot younger for what I do. Once they start to hear all I've done, they respect me [sometimes], but only once I put all that out there.

What advice would you give to writers who feel discouraged?

Believe in yourself and believe in your capabilities. Don’t be cocky in your capabilities, because there is always room to get better. There is always a way to learn more and make things better for you. Show love in what you do, have solid foundation, and people will show interest.

Tabitha, you are a woman of many talents. I aspire to do much of which you have already done. Good luck to you and all of your future endeavors. This is only the beginning love!
